Sealvane

Setup guides

Set up Sealvane on Android

For Android 9 and newer. You will paste your personal address into the Private DNS setting that is already on your phone.

Before you start: Sealvane is not open for sign-ups yet. Once you have early access you will get a personal address. In these steps we write it as YOUR-ADDRESS. Replace it with your own address everywhere it appears.

Set it up

  1. Open Settings.

Tap the Settings app (the gear icon).

  2. Find Private DNS.

On most phones: Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS. If you cannot see it, type “Private DNS” into the search box at the top of Settings.

On Samsung: Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Private DNS.

  3. Choose the hostname option.

    Tap Private DNS provider hostname.

  4. Type your address.

In the box, type or paste your personal address (YOUR-ADDRESS). Do not add “https://” or anything else.

  5. Save.

    Tap Save.

  6. Check it's working

Open a website such as one you visit every day. It should load as normal. Under the Private DNS setting, Android should not show a “can't connect” message. If it does, check you typed the address exactly.

Then open your Sealvane dashboard. Your phone should appear there with recent activity within a few minutes.

How to switch it off

Go back to the Private DNS setting (Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS, or on Samsung Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Private DNS) and choose Automatic. Normal internet is restored straight away.

If Sealvane cannot be reached while it is on, your phone shows a connection error until it can reach Sealvane again. Switching to Automatic fixes that immediately.
