Questions people ask
Do I need an app?
No. Android and Windows 11 have a built-in setting for it, and iPhone, iPad and Mac use a small profile that you install from your dashboard. Nothing runs in the background as an app.
Does it slow my internet?
Sealvane only takes part when your device looks up a website name, which takes a moment. It does not sit in the path of your downloads or video. We do not publish speed figures yet. Today our servers are in South Africa only, so devices far from South Africa may notice a slightly longer lookup.
What do you log?
For each lookup we record the website name, the time, what we did with it and why. Devices appear as labels, computer addresses only as keyed hashes, and card and ID numbers are masked. Records are deleted automatically after 90 days, and nothing is sold. We never see the pages you read. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Can I turn it off?
Yes, at any time, on each device. On Android, set Private DNS back to Automatic. On Windows, set DNS back to automatic. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, remove the profile. Our setup guides show each step.
What happens abroad?
It keeps working, because the protection is set on the device, not on a network. Lookups travel to our servers, which are in South Africa today, so they may take slightly longer from other regions.
Which devices work?
Android 9 and newer, iPhone and iPad, Mac, and Windows 11. Offices can also point their router at Sealvane to cover other devices on that network.
